Perimenopause is sometimes called the climacteric time of life. It is also called premenopause, and is a normal part of a woman's life. Perimenopause is the term for the period "around the time of menopause." The perimenopausal years are the 3 to 5 years before your final period.

Perimenopause is when the levels of hormones are slowly starting to drop, causing you symptoms similar to menopause and irregular periods. It is characterized by a decrease in the number of functional ovarian follicles and significant fluctuations in hormone levels.

Perimenopause symptoms will most likely be the same as the symptoms you will experience during actual menopause. However, they may be less severe.
